Upcoming Projects
El Cano, Dominican Republic- March 16-25, 2012
Los Cerros (The Hills) is part of the rural town of Don Juan about 2 hours north of Santo Domingo. There are 1,000 people in Los Cerros and they are very eager to work with our team on this court building project. A fraternity group from the University of Washington is adopting this project. For more info, click here.
Urbina, Cantel, Guatemala- March 31- April 7, 2012
Our annual SW Washington spring break trip will mark our first time in Guatemala, the most populous country in Central America, but one struggling with many challenges with 87% of the population living in poverty, according to the United Nations. We will be heading to a small community outside of Quetzaltenango, the second largest city in the country. Click here to find out more.
Colorado de Biolley, Costa Rica- May 15-23, 2012
Our ninth project in Costa Rica will be in our most rural location yet, Colorado de Biolley, about five hours south of San Jose, and home to 273 residents who primarily depend upon the production of coffee for their livelihood. The American partner is the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Washington State University. More info is available here.
Batey Cuchilla, Dominican Republic- July 6-15, 2012
At least one Courts for Kids project annually is unaffiliated with any particular group and open to anybody. This summer, our 'open' project is to a Batey in the Southwestern DR. Bateys sprang up around sugar cane plantations and were populated by many Haitian immigrants. They remain some of the poorest communities in the DR. La Conga, Peru- July 21-29, 2012
La Conga is a community of about 450 residents in the Andes Mountains of Northern Peru, outside of Cajamarca at an elevation of 2800 meters above sea level. The group adopting this project is from The Church of the Good Shepherd in Vancouver, WA. Contact us to see if there are openings. More information is available here.
Mahayahay, Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte, Philippines- July 31- August 11, 2012
This court will be built for the Mamanwa people, who are native to the Philippines, but like many indigenous groups, severely discriminated against. They have recently found acceptance through success at various basketball tournaments. However, they do not currently have a court to practice on or host games. This trip is open to anyone, but is geared toward those of faith, as most of the volunteers will be from various churches in the Portland/Vancouver area. More info here.
Jose Maria Escribas, Peru- August 11-19, 2012
This project will take place south of Lima in Tupac Amaru Inca, an area recently ravaged by an earthquake and eager to rebuild, and especially excited to create a safe opportunity for their kids to play. The American partner will be Rotaract volunteers. Rotaract is Rotary for college and post-college young adults. An info packet is available here.
If you have a group or team of 12 or more and would like to plan a trip specific to your needs, we can help. Fill out our trip application and we will be in touch with you. We currently have locations in Costa Rica, The Dominican Republic, Peru, Guatemala, Rwanda, Indonesia, Burundi, the Philippines and others where there is community interest for a court. The missing ingredient is a team willing to work together with them to make it happen. Could that be you?
